Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze is recovering in hospital after suffering health complications during a recent media appearance, according to National Unity Platform (NUP) secretary general David Rubongoya.
Rubongoya, who visited the legislator on Saturday afternoon, shared an update on X, noting that Nambooze was rushed to hospital a few days ago following the incident.
He expressed relief that her condition has since stabilized.
“Warm greetings from Madam Teacher, Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke. A few days ago, she developed health complications while appearing on a talkshow and was rushed to hospital where she has been admitted since. Checked on her this afternoon, and was glad to find her making good progress. Although she's still in hospital, her medical team says she's out of danger,” Rubongoya wrote.
Nambooze, a long-serving opposition figure and vocal critic of the government, has faced recurrent health challenges over the years, at times requiring treatment abroad.
Her latest hospitalization has drawn concern among supporters and colleagues, many of whom have sent messages of solidarity and prayers for her recovery.
Rubongoya also linked her health update to NUP’s ongoing political mobilization, adding: “Prayers for a quick and full recovery as we embark on #ProtestVote2026.”
Nambooze’s hospitalization comes at a politically charged moment as opposition parties intensify preparations for the 2026 elections.
Her allies say they remain optimistic that she will soon be discharged and return to her parliamentary and political duties.
