A social media post by a man identified as Handsome Mutooro has intensified public reaction following the Thursday shooting of a female motorist near the residence of Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among in Kampala.
In a message addressed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Mutooro called for intervention, accusing the Speaker’s security detail of excessive force during the incident along Mackinnon Road.
“Dear President Museveni I write to you with grief and pain because maybe you can help cub the impunity by the speaker Anitah Among,” he wrote.
He said the shooting followed a dispute over right of way near the Speaker’s residence and suggested that the driver may have been delayed in making a driving decision.
“Today her escorts shot a female driver because she didn't give her a right of way to her residence but being a female driver there are many reasons that can make her slow in making some driving decisions,” the post added.
He further warned that the matter should be addressed urgently.
“Please it's getting out of hand and if not handled now, that woman will become another problem in this country,” he stated.
The statement comes as police continue to investigate the shooting incident that occurred on Thursday near Mackinnon Road, close to Speaker Among’s official residence.
Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed that a female driver was shot by a police officer during the incident but said details surrounding the circumstances are still under investigation.
Authorities have not yet clarified what prompted the use of live ammunition or whether established security protocols were followed.
