Blogger Frank Mwesigye has publicly declared support for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao in the ongoing Speakership contest, framing his endorsement around patriotism, integrity, and anti-corruption values.

The statement comes as political competition for the Speaker of Parliament intensifies ahead of the formation of the 12th Parliament, where incumbent Speaker Anita Annet Among is seeking to retain her seat against a growing list of challengers, including Mao and former minister Persis Namuganza.

In his remarks shared on social media, Mwesigye dismissed claims that political support is being driven by financial incentives, insisting that Mao’s backing comes from principle rather than material interest.

“All those who support Nobert Mao are driven by patriotism and Nyekundiire. We are not motivated by money like those who support AAA. In fact, if Mao were to offer us money, we would refuse it. We admire him for his love for the country and for being an anti-corruption crusader,” Mwesigye stated.

His comments add another layer to the increasingly heated political messaging around the Speakership race, which has drawn attention both inside Parliament and across online political spaces.

Supporters of different camps have been active in shaping narratives around leadership credibility, institutional reform, and governance standards.

Norbert Mao, currently serving as Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has positioned himself as a reform-oriented candidate in the race.

His entry into the contest has widened the political conversation around parliamentary leadership, especially at a time when questions about accountability and public trust in institutions remain central in national discourse.

The contest itself follows earlier internal discussions within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), where President Yoweri Museveni initially signaled support for continuity in parliamentary leadership before later indicating that the party’s Central Executive Committee would vet all aspirants.

That shift opened the field for additional contenders.

Anita Among, who has served as Speaker since March 2022 after the death of Jacob Oulanyah, remains a key figure in the race.

Her supporters point to her leadership record in Parliament, while critics and rivals continue to raise concerns around governance, parliamentary independence, and political influence.

With the Speakership vote expected after the 2026 general election, political messaging from bloggers, party insiders, and influencers is becoming more pronounced as candidates seek to build early momentum within and outside Parliament.
