Activist Gideon Nova Kwikiriza has sharply reacted to the announcement by former Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda that he has officially joined the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, questioning his earlier reluctance to engage with digital audiences.
Ssemujju recently confirmed that he had opened an official X account, stating that it would serve as his primary channel for communication going forward.
He also dismissed multiple accounts previously operating under his name, insisting they were unauthorized and not under his control.
However, the move has drawn mixed reactions, with Kwikiriza expressing both a cautious welcome and criticism of the timing of the decision.
“You're welcome, but I feel sad that at a time when you needed our voices, you intentionally blocked them by deliberately refusing to be on SM,” Kwikiriza said.
He added that Ssemujju’s earlier absence from social media limited public engagement during crucial political moments when digital platforms were central to national discourse.
“I remember when I called to host you in an X space, and you told me you're not on SM. That's when I realized that we needed George Musisi,” he noted, referencing past efforts to involve the former legislator in online discussions.
Despite the criticism, Kwikiriza maintained a conciliatory tone, welcoming Ssemujju to the platform while acknowledging the significance of his decision.
“Nonetheless, you're most welcome,” he added.
Ssemujju’s entry into X has already attracted significant attention online, with his account gaining thousands of followers within hours of activation.
The development reflects the growing importance of digital platforms in political communication and public engagement across Uganda.
