Rubongoya Explodes After EC Blocks Bobi Wine Nomination

The battle over Bobi Wine’s nomination has taken a fiery twist after National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Rubongoya tore into the Electoral Commission, accusing it of lying and openly favoring President Museveni.

Rubongoya was furious after the EC claimed NUP failed to collect the minimum number of signatures required for Bobi Wine’s 2026 presidential bid.

“The truth will always come out! They should have told us the truth instead of taking us in circles and claiming we didn’t have enough signatures,” he fumed.

The EC insists NUP did not meet the 100 signatures from at least two-thirds of districts. But Rubongoya hit back, pointing to what he called clear double standards in how the commission handled nominations for Museveni and the opposition.

“Having decided to push us to the following day on account of the crowds, why push us to the afternoon instead of morning like they did with Gen. Museveni? Partisanship on full display,” he charged.

Tension was already high at Kololo Grounds as security forces blocked swarms of NUP supporters from escorting their candidate.

The chaotic scenes only fueled Rubongoya’s anger, with the opposition accusing the state of using technicalities to silence challengers.

But Rubongoya warned the regime cannot block the will of the people forever.

He urged Ugandans to prepare for an “overwhelming protest vote” in 2026 to sweep Museveni out of power.

“The only way this changes is when Ugandans rise with their vote. No amount of scheming can stop that,” he declared.

With emotions rising and accusations flying, the stage is set for an explosive election showdown.
