The arrest of Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has triggered fresh political tension in Uganda, with analysts pointing to deeper power struggles within the country’s parliamentary leadership.

“Nameere was not just an ally; she played a central role in mobilising support and sustaining the Speaker’s influence on the floor of Parliament.”
He describes Nameere as a key mobiliser within the Speaker’s camp, noting that her role extended beyond political loyalty to strategic coordination.
In his assessment, sidelining her weakens the Speaker’s ability to consolidate numbers and maintain influence in parliamentary proceedings.
