Kampala Central City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Sharifah Buzeki, has earned commendation for her visible impact on the city’s downtown environment, with urban development enthusiast Daniel Lutaaya hailing her leadership as a model of merit-based appointment.

In a statement shared on social media, Lutaaya highlighted ongoing improvements under Buzeki’s watch, noting: “Nakivubo channel is now covered up, street vendors are gone and we are planting grass and trees downtown. She says potholes and broken drainage channels are next on her laundry list.”

Lutaaya credited Buzeki’s rigorous public vetting and merit-based recruitment, emphasizing that her leadership demonstrates the value of selecting the most qualified candidate for key public roles.

“Employed on merit after a rigorous and public vetting process. And the work is now showing us why she beat that long list of elite candidates to this job,” he added.

Since assuming office, Buzeki has spearheaded urban renewal projects aimed at decongesting the city, improving drainage systems, and enhancing public spaces.

Initiatives such as covering Nakivubo Channel, clearing illegal street vending zones, and greening city streets have drawn praise from city residents and stakeholders alike.

Lutaaya’s recognition underscores growing public appreciation for leaders who deliver tangible results.

As the KCCA continues its urban cleanup and infrastructure upgrades, attention is now turning to Buzeki’s plans to address potholes and dilapidated drainage channels—issues that have long plagued Kampala’s city centre.

Her leadership exemplifies how merit-based appointments can transform city governance and visibly improve the quality of urban life, setting a benchmark for future public service appointments in Uganda.
