Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has led messages of condolence following a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two media professionals early Friday morning along Entebbe Road.
The crash, which occurred at Namulanda near Stabex, left Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye dead, while a third victim, Brian “Makona” Ssemanda, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at Kisubi Hospital.
In a statement released shortly after news of the accident broke, Bobi Wine described the incident as tragic and devastating to Uganda’s media fraternity.
He extended his sympathies to the bereaved families and colleagues of the deceased, while also wishing the injured survivor a quick recovery.
“Saddened by the tragic road accident this morning that claimed the lives of two media professionals, Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye, and left Brian ‘Makona’ Ssemanda critically injured,” he said.
“I send heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, colleagues, and the entire Ugandan media fraternity mourning the loss of the two creatives and wish Makona a swift and full recovery. Praying for your strength and comfort during this difficult time.”
Police reports indicate the crash involved two vehicles — a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Allex — in what authorities believe was a head-on collision.
Preliminary findings suggest the Hilux, which was travelling from Entebbe towards Kampala, lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with the oncoming car. Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
The deaths of Kasirye and Ndamagye have sent shockwaves across Uganda’s media industry, with colleagues describing them as dedicated professionals whose contributions will be deeply missed.
