Fresh details have emerged surrounding the controversial Rolls-Royce linked to Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, even as reports indicate she remains under heightened security surveillance.
In an update shared by journalist Sudhir Byaruhanga, new information points to the individual allegedly involved in moving and concealing the luxury vehicle at the centre of public scrutiny.
The development adds another layer to a story that has already stirred political and public debate across Uganda.
“According to a source, the driver who drove and hid the controversial Rolls-Royce has been identified as Malagala Bob, who was a driver before being promoted to Assistant Secretary in the office of Anita Among. He is a staff of Parliament,” Byaruhanga reported.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan, reportedly valued at billions of Ugandan shillings, first triggered controversy after it emerged that Among had received it as a birthday gift.
While she confirmed ownership, questions quickly arose over the source of the vehicle, the tax arrangements, and the broader optics of such luxury amid economic pressure facing ordinary citizens.
Authorities later clarified that the tax obligation on the vehicle ran into over Shs1 billion, dismissing claims that only a fraction had been paid.
However, the issue has remained politically sensitive, feeding into wider criticism of public officials’ lifestyles and accountability.
The latest claims about the driver’s identity are likely to intensify scrutiny, particularly given the individual’s reported ties to Parliament.
At the same time, reports that the Speaker is under security surveillance have heightened tensions סביב the matter, although details about the nature and scope of the surveillance remain unclear.
It is not immediately established whether the monitoring is linked directly to the Rolls-Royce controversy or to broader political and legal challenges facing her.
The developments come against the backdrop of mounting pressure on Among, both domestically and internationally, following previous allegations tied to governance and accountability issues.
