The Ugandan government has announced an emergency evacuation plan for hundreds of its citizens stranded in South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks that have left many living in fear.
According to Foreign Affairs Minister John Mulimba Kasolo, President Yoweri Museveni has directed government agencies to immediately coordinate the repatriation of Ugandans who wish to return home after violence reportedly erupted in parts of South Africa, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal Province.
The announcement comes after the brutal killing of a Ugandan national during an attack allegedly carried out by indigenous South African nationals. The incident has heightened anxiety among members of the Ugandan community, many of whom operate small businesses in affected areas.
Speaking about the government's response, Kasolo said more than 700 Ugandans have so far registered with authorities seeking assistance to return home.GET FULL STORY HERE.
