President Yoweri Museveni has welcomed American actor and musician Tyrese Gibson to Uganda, saying their discussions focused on creative arts, tourism and the shared heritage between Africa and African Americans.
Museveni said he held talks with the international artiste during Gibson’s visit, using the meeting to highlight Uganda’s potential in the creative and tourism sectors.
“I welcome international artiste Tyrese Gibson to Uganda. We discussed the creative arts, tourism, and the shared history and heritage of Africa and African Americans,” Museveni said.
The President also introduced Gibson to what he described as Uganda’s four sectors of socio-economic transformation, emphasising the contribution of the services sector to the country’s development.
According to Museveni, artistes such as Gibson can play an important role in expanding opportunities within the services sector, particularly through entertainment, tourism and cultural promotion.
“I shared with him Uganda’s four sectors of socio-economic transformation, including the role of artistes like him in the services sector,” Museveni said.
The discussions also explored opportunities available across the sectors and how partnerships involving the creative industry could contribute to Uganda’s economic development.
Gibson’s visit comes amid Uganda’s efforts to promote its cultural heritage and tourism attractions while strengthening international links through the creative industry.
The American artiste is known for his career in music and film, including his role as Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious film franchise.
His visit provides an opportunity for Uganda to showcase its cultural identity and tourism potential to an international audience.
Museveni wished Gibson a successful stay in the country, expressing hope that the visit would allow the artiste to experience Uganda while exploring areas of mutual interest.
“I wish him a fruitful and enjoyable visit to Uganda,” the President said.
The meeting underscores the growing role of cultural diplomacy in connecting African countries with the African diaspora through entertainment, tourism, history and shared heritage.
