Frank Tumwebaze has praised the thanksgiving ceremony hosted by Security Minister and Rujumbura County MP Jim Muhwezi in Rukungiri, describing the gathering as a significant political and social event attended by government officials and members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
Tumwebaze, the Minister for Agriculture, joined other government officials and PLU members at the ceremony, which was held at Kasoroza Playground in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District.
In a statement reflecting on the event, Tumwebaze congratulated Muhwezi, his wife Susan Muhwezi and their family for organising what he described as a well-attended thanksgiving ceremony.
“With other colleagues in government and PLU, I joined our Senior Comrade Hon Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi in Rukungiri for his Thanksgiving ceremony,” Tumwebaze said.
“I congratulate Hon Jim, his dear wife Susan Muhwezi and their family on organising a well-attended ceremony.”
The thanksgiving brought together political leaders, government officials, PLU members, supporters and other guests to celebrate Muhwezi's political journey and electoral success.
The event also became a platform for political messaging, with Tumwebaze highlighting what he described as strong support for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser for Special Operations.
Tumwebaze said residents of Rujumbura and the wider Rukungiri area had expressed confidence in Muhoozi as Uganda's future president, referring to the political period beginning in 2031.
“I thank the people of Rujumbura and the entire Rukungiri in general for enthusiastically endorsing and expressing confidence in Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as our future President, 2031 onwards,” he said.
His remarks come as Muhoozi's name continues to feature prominently in discussions about Uganda's political succession within the ruling National Resistance Movement and the PLU.
Tumwebaze further linked Muhoozi's political prospects to what he described as a secure and predictable future for Uganda.
“The future of our country is secure and predictable with Gen MK,” Tumwebaze stated.
The ceremony was primarily organised as a thanksgiving for Muhwezi, who returned to Parliament to represent Rujumbura County. It also included fundraising for Kasoroza Church of Uganda, Muhwezi's home church, with contributions and pledges reportedly exceeding Sh700 million.
President Yoweri Museveni, who had been expected as chief guest, was represented at the ceremony by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa. Museveni also contributed Sh100 million towards the church construction project.
