President Yoweri Museveni has commended the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, for promoting peace, unity and development in the Busoga sub-region.
The President delivered the message on Saturday, September 19, as Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja represented him at the 12th coronation anniversary of the Kyabazinga in Mayuge District.
Nabbanja said Museveni congratulated the Kyabazinga and the people of Busoga on the anniversary, recognising the cultural leader's contribution to strengthening unity across the region.
According to the Prime Minister, the President thanked Gabula for championing peace and development while working to bring together communities within the Busoga sub-region.
The celebrations brought together cultural leaders, government officials, political leaders and residents to mark 12 years since Gabula ascended to the throne.
Nabbanja said Museveni also praised the relationship between the Busoga cultural institution and the government, describing their cooperation as important in advancing development in the region.
“The President also commended the cultural institution for maintaining a cordial relationship with the Government,” Nabbanja said.
She added that the government remains committed to working with the Busoga Kingdom to promote development across the sub-region.
The remarks underline the government's continued engagement with traditional institutions, which play a significant cultural and social role in Uganda.
The Busoga Kingdom, based in eastern Uganda, brings together the traditional structures and cultural heritage of the Basoga people. The Kyabazinga's role includes providing cultural leadership while working alongside government structures on issues affecting communities.
Gabula was installed as the 13th Kyabazinga of Busoga in September 2014, succeeding Henry Wako Muloki, who died in 2008. His coronation marked a return to a unified royal leadership after years of disagreements over the succession.
Since his installation, Gabula has participated in initiatives focusing on education, health, investment, agriculture and community development across Busoga.
The anniversary celebrations in Mayuge therefore provided an opportunity for the cultural institution to reflect on its leadership role while reaffirming its relationship with the central government.
Nabbanja's message also highlighted the administration's position that cooperation between cultural institutions and government can support development while allowing traditional leaders to retain their cultural responsibilities.
The Prime Minister conveyed Museveni's congratulations to Gabula and the people of Busoga as the kingdom marked the 12th anniversary of the Kyabazinga's coronation.
