NTV journalist Samson Kasumba has sparked debate online after reflecting on President Yoweri Museveni’s political journey and what it takes to challenge his dominance.
Writing on X, Kasumba revealed he has been re-reading Museveni’s autobiography Sowing the Mustard Seed to gain deeper insight into the president’s character and methods.
According to Kasumba, one of the clear lessons from the book is that Museveni has always been “brave and daring.” He stressed that while the president can and should be challenged, anyone hoping to stand against him must begin preparing many years in advance.
This, he argued, requires not only equal or greater discipline than Museveni has shown but also an unwavering commitment to one’s goals.
“Have a plan early in your life,” Kasumba advised, warning against inconsistent and impulsive decisions.
To illustrate his point, he used an analogy: “This idea of moving and planning to go to Mukono to start a poultry farm and while in Seeta you decide to head to Namugongo to start a nursery school is audacious. More so if you want to challenge people who have been in the sector very long.”
His remarks come at a time when questions about Uganda’s political future remain central, especially as the country approaches the 2026 general elections.
Kasumba’s post has been interpreted by many as a call for aspiring leaders and opposition figures to think beyond immediate politics and invest in disciplined, long-term strategies.
For him, challenging Museveni is not a matter of mere ambition, but of preparation, focus, and resilience.
Museveni will be running for another term in the 2026 general elections.
