National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has raised alarm over the removal of three women from the National Voter’s Register, describing the move as unprecedented impunity.
In a statement on X on Sunday, Bobi Wine said the Electoral Commission, through its secretary, informed the High Court that Alupo Mercy Marion, Norma Susan Otai, and Akol Hellen Odeke had been deleted from the voter register.
“These three women have all sought to challenge that shameless woman, Anita Among, for Woman MP in Bukedea District,” he said.
Alupo Mercy represents NUP, Norma Otai is the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, while Akol Hellen attempted to run in the NRM primaries but was disqualified over residency claims.
Bobi Wine accused the Electoral Commission of bypassing proper legal procedures. He said the women were never invited to a tribunal hearing that reportedly recommended their removal.
They only learned about the deletions after Among, through a proxy, took the matter to court. The Commission then allegedly resolved to remove them from the register even before the case was heard.
“This is unprecedented impunity,” Bobi Wine said, calling on Ugandans to recognize the danger posed by such actions.
“I hope every citizen can see where we’re headed as a country unless we use one voice to put an end to this criminality; this nonsense!"
