National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, on Thursday led a major campaign rally in Nakaseke District, using Uganda’s Independence Day to highlight what he called the “betrayal” of the sacrifices made during the liberation struggle.
In a post shared on X after the rally, Bobi Wine said his decision to hold the event in Nakaseke was symbolic, describing it as a place that holds the skulls of thousands who perished fighting for the dream of a truly independent Uganda.
He accused President Yoweri Museveni’s government of abandoning the region despite its central role in the 1980s war that brought the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to power.
“Forty years later, Nakaseke is one of the poorest districts in Uganda,” Bobi Wine wrote, citing pathetic roads, dilapidated schools, and lack of electricity and running water.
He added that land grabbing has become rampant, leaving many residents dispossessed and struggling.
The opposition leader said his message to the people was one of awakening and resistance.
“We came to awaken our people here to resist the criminal regime and play their part in this cause,” he stated, expressing satisfaction with what he described as very large numbers who attended the rally.
The event comes amid heightened political activity as Bobi Wine intensifies his grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2026 general election.
His rally in Nakaseke drew hundreds of supporters clad in NUP colors, chanting slogans calling for change.
