Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has lauded Ugandan women for their growing influence in government, highlighting their contributions during a Women’s Day breakfast meeting held at Parliament on Friday.
Addressing female legislators and staff, Tayebwa acknowledged the critical roles women now occupy across government, including top positions in Parliament.
“We can no longer afford to relegate women to the periphery as they have proved their worth,” he said, praising President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling NRM party for promoting gender inclusivity.
Tayebwa reflected on his experience working with women in leadership, citing Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Speaker Anita Among.
He described their dedication, professionalism, and patriotism as “beyond measure,” adding that their leadership has shaped his own approach in Parliament.
While celebrating women, Tayebwa also emphasized the need to address challenges facing the boy child. He warned that ignoring these issues could compromise the development of responsible future generations.
