The Ugandans On X (UOX) community has elected Achila Gift Grace as its new president following an online vote conducted on the social media platform X.
The results were announced on Friday, April 24, 2026, by Erich Mboowa, who served as the Returning Officer for the election held on the official @UOXUganda account.
The poll ran for 24 hours and attracted participation from members of the online community.
Mboowa said the exercise was conducted in a transparent manner within the informal structure that guides the group’s activities.
“Achilla Grace Gift (@GiftGrace01) has obtained the highest number of votes and is therefore duly recognized as the winner of the UOX Presidential Poll,” he stated.
He noted that although the process is not governed by a formal constitution, it was guided by principles of fairness, consultation, and mutual respect.
He also urged members to accept the outcome and support the incoming leadership.
“I call upon all members to respect the outcome, support the declared winner, and continue fostering constructive engagement within the community,” Mboowa said.
The election brings to a close the tenure of Gideon Nova Kwikiriza, who previously served as UOX president.
Under his leadership, the community expanded its presence on X, becoming a space for discussion and engagement among Ugandans online.
Following the announcement, Achila Gift Grace issued a statement thanking supporters and participants who contributed to his victory.
“UOX family, friends, colleagues, well wishers, changeseeking Ugandans, and comrades in the struggle,” he began.
He expressed appreciation to those who supported his campaign during the voting period, including members who shared links and mobilised votes.
“To all those who tirelessly looked for votes, shared links, and even simply wished us the best, we do not take it for granted,” he said, adding that he intends to serve with commitment.
Grace said his leadership will focus on accountability, advocacy, and collaboration within the community, promising to work closely with members.
“I promise to be the leader you believed in,” he said.
He also acknowledged supporters in multiple languages, reflecting the diverse background of the group’s members.
The UOX election, conducted entirely online, drew attention from members who followed the process in real time on X.
While informal, the vote has become a key moment for the community, which continues to use digital platforms to organise discussions and leadership selection.
With Achila Gift Grace now taking over, members are expected to engage in shaping the direction of the group as it continues its activities on social media.
