“Corruption Thrives Where Truth Is Ignored,” Road Safety Official Warns in Hard-Hitting Remarks

Principal Road Safety Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport Ronald Amanyire has issued a strong warning on the state of governance and accountability, saying corruption continues to thrive in environments where truth is deliberately ignored or distorted.

In a reflective statement titled “Living Outside the Truth: A Confrontation with Corruption,” Amanyire argued that institutional decay begins when societies normalize dishonesty and accept partial accountability as justice.

“A nation begins to rot the moment it chooses to live outside the truth,” he stated, adding that corruption is not sustained by ignorance, but by collective denial and silence.

He warned that repeated tolerance of what he described as “half-stories” and selective enforcement of accountability has allowed corruption to evolve from isolated incidents into entrenched systems.

“When truth is abandoned, corruption stops being an incident and becomes a culture. Systems bend. Institutions adjust. The abnormal becomes normal,” he noted.

Amanyire further observed that integrity is often undermined in environments where competence is sidelined in favour of loyalty or influence, saying public service risks being reduced into a transactional space rather than a duty-driven institution.

He also pointed to what he termed the deeper danger of corruption, not just financial loss but moral erosion within society.

According to him, sustained dishonesty weakens public trust and distorts citizens’ ability to distinguish between truth and deception.

“The real danger isn’t the money lost, it’s the moral collapse that follows,” he said, warning that societies which repeatedly compromise on truth eventually lose the capacity to recognize honesty.

Amanyire concluded that stability built on denial cannot endure, cautioning that corruption evolves and eventually overwhelms systems that fail to confront it decisively.

“A country cannot reform what it refuses to name. And it cannot heal while living outside the truth,” he stated.
