A fatal road accident involving Uganda’s Lands Minister has left one person dead following a morning crash along a major highway, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
According to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the incident occurred at around 8:30 AM on April 1 at Kibukula Swamp along the Kampala–Masaka Highway.
The crash involved a government vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (registration UBR 811D), carrying Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba.
Police said the vehicle struck a pedestrian identified as Batera Flavia, a resident of Kyengera, who died instantly at the scene.
“The driver of the vehicle and the Minister sustained minor injuries,” Kananura stated. Both were rushed to Nkozi Hospital for treatment and were later discharged after receiving medical attention.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Gombe Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination as part of ongoing investigations.
Police confirmed that the vehicle involved has since been towed to a nearby station, where it will undergo inspection to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Kampala–Masaka Highway is one of Uganda’s busiest transport corridors, frequently recording high traffic volumes and accidents. Authorities say investigations are underway to determine liability and any possible traffic violations that may have contributed to the incident.
