Rubongoya Visits Mufumbiro in Luzira After Bail Denial, Says He Remains Strong Despite Wife’s Burial Pain

National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Rubongoya has visited Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro at Luzira Upper Prison following a court decision that denied him bail to attend the burial of his wife. 


He visited the prison shortly after the court ruling that sparked political debate over compassionate bail considerations.


This afternoon, National Unity Platform (NUP) Secretary General David Rubongoya visited Luzira Upper Prison to check on party member Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro following a court decision that denied him bail to attend the burial of his wife. 


He visited the prison shortly after the court ruling that sparked political debate over compassionate bail considerations.


He said Mufumbiro was visibly affected by the ruling but remained composed during the visit. 


“He is hurt he will not say farewell to his wife, but he is strong,” He added that the opposition figure expressed gratitude for the visit despite the circumstances.


According to Rubongoya, Mufumbiro expressed emotional pain over missing the burial of his wife. 


Rubongoya quoted him saying, “This is part of what we signed up for by engaging in a struggle against dictatorship.” 


He noted that the remarks reflect the broader sentiments within the party regarding ongoing legal and political challenges.


He further noted that Mufumbiro believes their political path will be understood over time, even by critics. 


“We are in this because of our foresightedness.” Rubongoya also conveyed greetings from Mufumbiro to supporters across the country. 


He said the message was intended to reassure supporters following the court’s decision. 


He emphasized unity among supporters during what he described as a difficult moment for the movement across the country and diaspora supporters too.
