“A Single Rolls-Royce Triggered It All” — Political Analyst Weighs In as Corruption Probe into Anita Among Widens

Pressure surrounding Uganda’s Speaker Anita Annet Among has intensified following renewed corruption allegations linked to luxury assets and widening investigations targeting senior parliamentary officials.

The debate was reignited by political analyst David Soita Masinde, who described the situation as a potential turning point in Uganda’s political and governance landscape, pointing to the reported acquisition of a high-end Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the ongoing scrutiny of unexplained wealth.

Masinde linked the unfolding controversy to what he termed a rapid escalation from private speculation to formal investigative attention.

“A single Rolls-Royce. That’s all it took to trigger the collapse of an empire. What began as a quiet whisper among Kampala’s well-connected elite has officially morphed into a raging political wildfire,” he said.

His remarks come amid media reports that investigators are probing assets linked to senior parliamentary officials, including luxury vehicles and high-value properties.

Earlier reports indicated that a Rolls-Royce associated with Among was seized during a broader operation tied to allegations of illicit enrichment, corruption, and money laundering. The Speaker has previously denied wrongdoing.

Masinde further claimed that investigative actions had expanded beyond isolated assets, suggesting a widening probe across multiple locations connected to influential figures.

“This morning, investigators sealed off the parliamentary offices of Speaker Anita Annet Among and Clerk Adolf Mwesige Kasaija. The arrogance of flashing unexplainable wealth has finally backfired,” he said, though these claims have not been independently confirmed by state authorities.

Authorities have not publicly detailed any operational steps involving the sealing of offices, but reports indicate that forensic examinations of digital devices and financial records are ongoing as part of broader asset tracing efforts.

Masinde also argued that the investigation could expose deeper networks of wealth accumulation if fully pursued.

“If they keep digging, they won’t just find luxury villas in Bukedea; they will find the stolen wealth stashed in the most unexpected places. The audit must go deeper,” he said.

He added that scrutiny should not be limited to elite neighbourhoods, suggesting that investigators should widen their scope across different economic zones.

“We need to look into the slum properties of Katanga and Kivulu to see exactly how far this greed extends. This is just the beginning of a massive institutional reckoning,” he said.

The allegations against Among have previously drawn international attention. In 2024, the United Kingdom and the United States imposed sanctions citing corruption-related concerns, which she has consistently denied.

While the latest claims continue to circulate in political and media circles, no court determination has been made. Investigations remain ongoing, with authorities yet to issue a comprehensive public briefing on the full scope of the probe.
