Veteran journalist Charles Onyango-Obbo has commented on the growing pressure surrounding Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, directing attention to her husband, FUFA President and Member of Parliament Moses Magogo, as investigations and scrutiny around the Speaker intensify.

His remarks come at a time when Among is facing a series of corruption-related allegations, asset seizures, and questions over her financial disclosures, developments that have placed her under both political and public scrutiny.

Security agencies recently carried out coordinated operations targeting properties linked to the Speaker, including searches at residences in Nakasero and Kigo. Her parliamentary offices were also temporarily sealed off during the exercise.

During the raids, a luxury Rolls-Royce allegedly linked to her was seized, valued at about Sh3.4 billion, as part of ongoing investigations into suspected illicit enrichment.

At the same time, the Inspectorate of Government has confirmed receipt of a petition challenging her compliance with the Leadership Code Act.

The complaint accuses Among of failing to fully declare her wealth and liabilities, or under-declaring her assets. The IGG says the matter is still at the initial processing stage before formal investigations are opened.

Beyond the domestic probes, Among has also faced international sanctions since 2024. The United Kingdom and the United States imposed restrictions against her, citing allegations of significant corruption during her time in Parliament.

The measures include travel bans and financial restrictions.

She has, however, denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that the actions against her are politically motivated.

It is in this context that Onyango-Obbo issued his remarks, focusing on the pressure now surrounding Magogo as the spouse of a senior public figure under investigation.

“Few Ugandan men have been tested by the public and political life of their wives in the way FUFA boss and MP Moses Magogo has. As the husband of fallen former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, what he does in the coming weeks and months could considerably uplift the standing of Ugandan men — or ruin their reputation forever. Be strong brother Moses.”

The statement reflects the wider public conversation emerging around the case, where scrutiny has moved beyond institutions and into the personal circles of those involved.
