State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Ateenyi has issued a stern warning to individuals opposing Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s endorsement of Defence Minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth for the Speakership, saying resistance to the bid will not succeed.
In a statement shared publicly, Balaam said those attempting to block the emerging political alignment risk being overwhelmed by what he described as a strong wave of support.
“Warning to all those trying to stand in the path of the tsunami: cooperate or risk being swept away when the wave arrives. The time for obstruction is over,” he said.
He also thanked President Yoweri Museveni for appointing Gen. Muhoozi as a Special Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, praising his influence in shaping what he termed a renewed push for patriotism within government circles.
“Thank you, Mr. President for choosing a patriot and CDF General Muhoozi kainerugaba as your special presidential Advisor on Special Operations,” Balaam added.
The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments following reports that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) had withdrawn its earlier support for Speaker Anita Among and Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa.
The group has since indicated support for Oboth-Oboth, a shift that has triggered lobbying and internal contestation ahead of the Speakership race.
Balaam further alleged that some leaders are mobilising against Oboth-Oboth’s bid. He singled out Hon. Byamukama, accusing him of organising meetings aimed at influencing MPs against the endorsement.
“A certain Hon. Byamukama is reportedly mobilizing against the Rt. Hon. Oboth Oboth at a luncheon. Be warned and stay away from the path of people’s liberation and victory,” he said.
He cautioned against continued efforts to influence lawmakers in what he described as a divisive manner, saying such actions were being closely watched.
“Stop making calls to MPs aimed at sabotaging unity and patriotism. Every action is being monitored,” he warned.
Balaam framed the Speakership contest as part of a broader political direction aligned with Muhoozi’s leadership style, describing the current mobilisation as centred on unity and patriotism.
“Stand with the patriots, or the patriots will stand against you,” he said.
He added that the movement associated with Muhoozi Kainerugaba remains firm and focused on its political objectives.
“Under the leadership of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the movement for patriotism, transparency, and national unity remains strong and determined,” he said.
