Political commentator Leon Oketch Okumu has raised questions over the close association that Kasambya County MP and Daudi Kabanda allegedly maintained with former Speaker Anita Annet Among, linking it to the current scrutiny and security operations targeting her residence.

Okumu claimed that Kabanda was a frequent visitor at Among’s home, where he reportedly spent long periods including meals throughout the day.

He suggested that such access, if accurate, could have given him detailed familiarity with the layout of the house and internal movements within the residence.

He further alleged that proximity of that nature may have allowed exposure to sensitive details, including where valuables were kept.

However, these claims remain unverified and have not been confirmed by any investigative agency or official source.

The remarks come days after reports of a coordinated security operation at Among’s Nakasero residence involving CID officers and other security units conducting a search linked to ongoing corruption-related investigations.

The operation has triggered political discussion over possible internal networks and shifting alliances within influential political circles.

Okumu also pointed to Kabanda’s recent political shift, noting his withdrawal of support for Among’s speakership bid and his later alignment with other candidates.

He questioned the timing of the change in position, suggesting it has raised suspicion among sections of political observers. No evidence has been presented connecting the shift to any covert activity.

Kabanda, who also serves as the PLU Secretary General, had earlier been part of a bloc that publicly supported Among’s leadership bid before later announcing a change in stance in favour of President Museveni’s preferred direction in the parliamentary leadership race.

Despite the speculation, no official communication from security agencies or Parliament has indicated any link between Kabanda and the ongoing investigations into Among. Authorities have also not suggested any breach of trust or infiltration within her close circle.

The claims have nonetheless fuelled discussion in political circles, especially at a time when competing alliances are emerging around parliamentary leadership and broader state power structures.

Okumu concluded his remarks by warning against over-reliance on close political relationships, saying the unfolding situation reflects how quickly trust can shift in high-level political environments.
