Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has publicly expressed solidarity with former minister Miria Matembe amid growing concern over her reported disappearance following a security raid on her home in Kampala.

Matembe, a veteran politician and outspoken government critic, has not been seen since earlier this week when security operatives reportedly raided her residence in Luzira.

According to her family, she had left home for a routine morning jog shortly before the raid and has not returned since, raising fears about her safety and whereabouts.

In a statement, Kyagulanyi—popularly known as Bobi Wine—condemned what he described as ongoing harassment targeting Matembe and other women in Uganda’s political space.

“I stand with you in this dark and painful moment,” he said, adding that such actions do not diminish the courage of those targeted but instead expose “weakness and moral bankruptcy” among those responsible.

Although he did not directly name any individual, his remarks appeared to reference recent controversial statements and actions linked to Uganda’s military leadership, which have drawn criticism from sections of the public and civil society.

The disappearance of Matembe has sparked reactions across political and activist circles, with calls mounting for authorities to clarify her status.

Opposition figures and human rights advocates have questioned the circumstances surrounding the raid, particularly the failure by security agencies to provide an official explanation.

Kyagulanyi further warned that the international community is closely monitoring developments in Uganda, suggesting that accountability would eventually be pursued for alleged abuses.

“The world is watching, and one day he will be held to account,” he stated.

Matembe has long been known for her advocacy on governance, women’s rights, and accountability, often taking positions critical of the government.

Her sudden disappearance now adds to a broader pattern of concern over the treatment of dissenting voices in the country.
