National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi has ignited fresh political controversy following his reaction to the outcome of the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament by-election, where the opposition party suffered defeat to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Speaking after the Electoral Commission announced the final results, Kyagulanyi questioned both the conduct of the election and the circumstances surrounding the death of former Kalangala Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli, whose passing created the vacancy that led to the by-election.

In a strongly worded statement, the NUP leader suggested that the events surrounding the election had raised serious questions among Ugandans. He argued that the manner in which the contest was conducted could lead some citizens to speculate about the motives behind Nakimuli’s death, although he did not present evidence to support the allegation.
