Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Uganda has issued an official statement following the death of one of its customers, Mr. Lubega Fahad, who died on 10 June 2026 after a reported violent incident outside its Ntinda branch.

In the statement, the bank expressed sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.

“Diamond Trust Bank has learnt with sadness of the passing of Mr. Lubega Fahad, a customer of the Bank, on 10th June 2026. We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement read.

DTB clarified that its last interaction with Mr. Lubega took place earlier at its Naalya Branch on 2 June 2026. According to the bank, the engagement followed a complaint raised by a person linked to a financial transaction involving the deceased.

The bank further stated that the matter had been formally escalated to the Uganda Police, leading to Mr. Lubega’s arrest for further investigation.

“The matter was reported to the Uganda Police, and he was subsequently taken into police custody for further investigations,” the statement added.

DTB emphasized that it is fully cooperating with authorities as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the case continue. The bank noted that it will provide any additional support required by law enforcement agencies to establish the facts.

“The Bank is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and will continue to provide any assistance that may be required as investigations progress,” management stated.

The clarification comes amid public debate surrounding the events that led to Mr. Lubega’s death, with initial accounts suggesting that a confrontation outside the Ntinda branch escalated into a mob attack involving members of the public.

Witness reports earlier indicated that the situation escalated following a dispute linked to allegations of fraud, before boda boda riders and bystanders allegedly mistook the incident for a robbery attempt, resulting in a violent assault.

DTB Statement

The bank’s statement does not directly address the alleged mob attack at the Ntinda branch but instead focuses on its prior engagement with the customer and the formal police process that followed earlier complaints.

Authorities are expected to provide a comprehensive account of the incident, including the events at Ntinda and the circumstances that led to Mr. Lubega’s death.

The case has since reignited discussions on mob justice, due process, and public handling of suspected criminal activity, particularly in high-traffic urban areas where misinformation can quickly escalate into violence.
