Political blogger and member of the Patriotic League Uganda (PLU) Patriotic League Uganda Frank Mwesigye has dismissed reports alleging that he spent more than 10 billion Ugandan shillings on his lavish weekend wedding, insisting that the celebrations were fully financed through voluntary contributions from friends, family, and supporters.

In a detailed response shared after public debate over the scale of the ceremony, Mwesigye defended the event, including reports of a convoy of luxury vehicles that accompanied him during the celebrations in Kyankwanzi.

In a detailed response shared after public debate over the scale of the ceremony, Mwesigye defended the event, including reports of a convoy of luxury vehicles that accompanied him during the celebrations in Kyankwanzi.

He said the convoy comprised 102 vehicles, all belonging to friends who joined the occasion voluntarily rather than hired transport.

On the financial claims, Mwesigye denied personally funding any part of the wedding, stating that no taxpayer money was involved.

He maintained that all expenses were covered through collective support structures organised in advance of the ceremony.

“On the giveaway in Kyankwanzi, I had a convoy of 102 luxury cars. None of them were hired; they all belonged to my friends who willingly joined me,” he said.

“Throughout this entire wedding journey, I did not spend a single coin of my own money. Every contribution came from friends, family, and well-wishers who value and support me.”

Mwesigye further revealed that coordination for the event was handled through four WhatsApp groups, which he said included a network of supporters across different social categories.

According to him, one group comprised 43 Members of Parliament, another had 80 VIP members, a third included 1,019 ordinary citizens, while a family group had 20 participants.

He described the level of participation as a reflection of strong personal and political networks built over time, adding that the support demonstrated trust and goodwill rather than financial excess or public resource use.

“The overwhelming support I received is a reflection of the strong relationships I have built over the years. No taxpayers’ money was spent on this wedding,” he said, thanking all contributors, guests, and well-wishers.

The claims and counterclaims have continued to generate debate online, with questions emerging over the scale of private spending in politically connected social events.
