The war of words between National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has intensified following the controversial arrest of former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

The latest exchange unfolded on social media, where Bobi Wine launched a fierce attack on the military chief, accusing him of abusing power and tarnishing the image of Uganda's armed forces.

In a lengthy statement posted online, Bobi Wine described Gen Muhoozi as a leader driven by insecurity and a desire for public attention. The opposition leader argued that the military chief's actions were damaging the reputation of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) and undermining public confidence in state institutions.GET FULL STORY HERE.

"History will remember you and your father with shame. One day even your own children will struggle to defend your name," Bobi Wine wrote in one of the strongest sections of his message.

The comments came amid public outrage over the arrest of Erias Lukwago, the president of the People's Front for Freedom (PFF) and a member of Dr. Kizza Besigye's legal team. Lukwago was reportedly taken from his home in Wakaliga by security operatives before being transported to an undisclosed location.

Gen Muhoozi later confirmed that he had ordered the operation and subsequently shared photographs of Lukwago on social media, a move that attracted criticism from opposition leaders, lawyers, and human rights activists.

The military chief did not remain silent following Bobi Wine's remarks. On Tuesday, Gen Muhoozi responded by accusing the opposition leader of drug abuse and challenged him to return to Uganda.

The CDF's comments added another chapter to the long-running rivalry between the two influential political figures, whose disagreements have frequently played out in public through social media exchanges.

Political observers say the confrontation reflects growing tensions within Uganda's political landscape as debates over governance, civil liberties, and opposition activities continue to dominate public discourse.

Bobi Wine has been outside Uganda since March following the disputed 2026 presidential election. While abroad, he has continued engaging with international audiences and criticizing President Museveni's administration.

Despite his absence, the former presidential candidate has repeatedly maintained that his stay overseas is temporary and that he intends to return to Uganda.
