A political warning made by veteran opposition leader Kizza Besigye more than two decades ago has resurfaced in national debate as CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba continues to attract attention over his increasingly visible political ambitions.

The renewed discussion comes as Muhoozi's public profile expands beyond military affairs, with analysts and political observers revisiting claims first made by Besigye in 2005 during Uganda’s transition back to multiparty politics.

At the time, Besigye had returned from exile to challenge President Yoweri Museveni in the 2006 general election. During that period, he alleged that the President was laying the foundation for a long-term succession project centered on his son, Muhoozi. According to Besigye, the younger Museveni was receiving rapid military advancement and specialized training that could eventually position him at the top of Uganda’s security establishment.
