Solomon Kampala, son of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has called on Ugandans at home and in the diaspora to remain mindful of what he described as the growing plight of political prisoners and government critics.

In a statement circulating on social media, Kampala urged citizens not to lose focus on individuals he claims have been detained, disappeared, or killed in the wake of recent arrests targeting opposition figures and their supporters.

His remarks come amid heightened political tension in Uganda following a series of controversial security operations.

“As you live your normal life today, in Uganda and in the Diaspora, please do not forget about the political prisoners, disappeared, and killed comrades back home in Uganda,” Kampala said.

He appealed for both moral and material support, noting that those affected were enduring significant hardship for their political beliefs.

Uganda has in recent weeks witnessed a wave of arrests involving opposition leaders, activists, and supporters, raising concern among rights groups and sections of the international community.

Security agencies, however, have maintained that the operations are lawful and aimed at preserving national stability and public order.

Kampala’s statement underscores growing unease within opposition circles, particularly among supporters of the NUP, who argue that the arrests reflect a broader clampdown on dissent.

“They are paying a terrible price, and some have paid the ultimate price for caring about our country and the future of the youth and the children of Uganda,” he added.

Human rights organisations have previously raised alarm over alleged arbitrary detentions and enforced disappearances in Uganda, calling for transparency and adherence to due process.

Government officials have repeatedly denied claims of unlawful conduct, insisting that all actions taken are within the confines of the law.
