Media personality Frank Gashumba has publicly declared his support for President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 general election, citing the President’s recent executive order that addressed the citizenship concerns of Banyarwanda communities in Uganda.
In a heartfelt post shared on X, Gashumba expressed what he called a message of gratitude to Museveni, praising him for showing what he described as compassion and justice toward Ugandans of Rwandan descent who had long struggled to obtain national identification documents.
“Your Executive Order No. 1 of 2025 was not merely a policy directive—it was a declaration of justice, humanity, and true statesmanship,” Gashumba wrote.
He noted that Museveni’s directive had restored dignity to thousands of Banyarwanda who had been denied national IDs and passports despite being born and raised in Uganda.
Gashumba, who also chairs the Council for Abavandimwe, said the President’s action had ended decades of pain and discrimination suffered by members of the community.
“You stood with us when others turned away. You listened when our voices were ignored,” he wrote, adding that Museveni had proved leadership was about compassion, courage, and vision.
The outspoken commentator said the community’s struggle had been long and painful, describing the feeling of rejection as no different from physical pain.
He credited Museveni for translating Pan-African ideals into practical action, arguing that the President’s decision showed that inclusion and justice remained at the heart of his leadership.
“For this, I will vote for Kaguta Museveni,” Gashumba declared, signaling what could be one of the most prominent endorsements yet for Museveni as he eyes another term in the 2026 elections.
