President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Quality Chemical Industries Limited (QCIL) on reaching its 20th anniversary and on the launch of a new 28,000-square-metre modern manufacturing facility, describing the milestone as a key step toward Uganda’s industrial growth.

In a statement shared on social media, Museveni highlighted the significance of the development as the country celebrates its Independence.

“This milestone is what the NRM has been talking about all this time. We must stop the hemorrhage of resources from our country,” he said, emphasizing the need to reduce reliance on imports.

He noted that the money currently spent on imports could instead be used to build approximately 40 factories within Uganda, creating over one million jobs for citizens.

The President praised QCIL for advancing local production of essential medicines, particularly HIV and malaria vaccines, noting that Uganda had resolved to produce these critical health products domestically.

“I am very happy to witness this vision being fulfilled. I congratulate them,” Museveni added.

The new facility is expected to boost QCIL’s production capacity and support the government’s agenda of self-reliance in pharmaceuticals.

Over the past two decades, QCIL has established itself as a leading manufacturer of essential drugs and chemicals in the region.

Its expansion signals confidence in Uganda’s industrial potential and aligns with the government’s long-term vision of fostering local enterprises to strengthen the economy.

By celebrating the company’s anniversary alongside the opening of its state-of-the-art facility, Museveni underlined the government’s commitment to industrialization and local production as pillars of national development, framing the milestone as both a corporate achievement and a national gain.

The President’s remarks come amid renewed calls for investment in local manufacturing to ensure Uganda can meet its healthcare needs and create sustainable jobs for its growing population.
