President Yoweri Museveni has called on Ugandans to reject revenge and embrace forgiveness, saying that true strength lies in choosing righteousness even in the face of injustice.

Speaking during the 27th Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast held in Entebbe on Wednesday, Museveni said that both leaders and citizens must learn to overcome anger and avoid evil acts, regardless of the challenges they face.

“Maama and I hosted the 27th Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast in Entebbe today. I welcome all the guests who joined us in prayer and encourage Parliament to continue this important tradition,” Museveni posted on X after the event.

The President thanked former presidential advisor Chris Rwakasisi for sharing what he described as a “powerful testimony,” and commended Bishop JB Masinde for delivering what he called a “compelling message on forgiveness, reconciliation, and tolerance.”

Museveni urged political leaders, especially Members of Parliament, to put their faith in God when faced with unfairness or defeat in internal party contests.

“To the MPs, do not harbor anger over primary election injustices. Even if you are cheated, trust that God will provide help,” he said.

The Head of State reflected on the liberation struggle, recalling that although the National Resistance Army (NRA) had the capacity to assassinate opponents, they chose a path of integrity and discipline.

“During the struggle, we had the capability to assassinate but chose the path of honest fighting, steering clear of dishonorable means,” he said.

The annual prayer breakfast brings together political, religious, and civic leaders to pray for national unity and moral renewal.

This year’s event focused on the theme of reconciliation and forgiveness among Uganda’s political class.
