The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers who was captured on video assaulting a female petrol station attendant in a widely circulated clip that sparked public outrage on Monday.

Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma said preliminary investigations identified the suspect as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nsiima, who was seen physically attacking the woman at a Shell petrol station.

“Yesterday, 7th October 2025, a video circulated on social media depicting a male client assaulting a female attendant at a Shell petrol station. Our preliminary investigations point to ASP Nsiima, a police officer, as the suspect,” Kituuma said in a statement shared on X.

He confirmed that the officer has since been arrested and placed in police custody.

“He will be brought to account as soon as investigations are complete. We have also got in touch with the victim and witnesses,” the statement added.

The short video, which has been trending on various platforms, shows a man in plain clothes attacking the female worker during what appears to be a disagreement at the fuel station.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with many Ugandans demanding immediate disciplinary action.

Kituuma emphasized that the police leadership “condemns this behaviour as it contravenes our disciplinary code,” noting that no officer is above the law.
