NUP Secretary General David Rubongoya has launched a scathing attack on Kampala Central MP-elect Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, accusing her of orchestrating electoral fraud in last Thursday’s parliamentary elections.
The remarks follow Kabanda’s social media post thanking God for her victory.
In a statement posted on X, Rubongoya labeled Kabanda an “election thief” and alleged that her win was the result of systematic manipulation and intimidation.
He claimed that polling agents were arrested, military personnel controlled four parishes, and votes were cast multiple times at certain stations.
He also accused Kabanda of deploying gangs to attack supporters of her opponents and interfering with ballot forms at tally centres.
Rubongoya said, “See this ELECTION THIEF Minsa Kabanda hiding her theft behind God! You know you would never have received even 1,000 votes in a fair contest.”
He insisted that despite alleged harassment, the opposition secured overwhelming support and that Kabanda’s victory was “manipulated at the tally centre.”
The NUP leader also criticized Kabanda for framing her win as a divine blessing, suggesting that invoking God “to hide your crimes” undermined the credibility of the electoral process.
Kabanda, who defeated Rubongoya in a closely watched contest, had earlier expressed gratitude to her supporters and vowed to serve the constituents of Kampala Central.
She has not publicly responded to Rubongoya’s accusations.
