Scholar Jim Spire Ssentongo has raised concerns over potential electoral manipulation ahead of upcoming elections in Kampala.

Speaking on X, Ssentongo indicated that he has received reports suggesting that individuals from a certain institution may be mobilized to act as polling agents and returning officers in civilian attire, particularly in central Kampala.

“Maybe it is not true, but it calls for vigilance for a free and fair election,” Ssentongo wrote, urging citizens and authorities to remain alert.

The scholar did not specify which institution is allegedly involved, but his warning highlights ongoing fears over electoral integrity in the capital.

Civil society groups in Uganda have consistently emphasized the need for credible, impartial election management.

Recent years have seen heightened scrutiny of polling practices, with observers cautioning that any attempt to manipulate results could trigger unrest and undermine public trust in democratic processes.

With elections approaching, vigilance and citizen participation are being framed as critical to ensuring a credible outcome.

Ssentongo’s message serves as a reminder that safeguarding the electoral process requires both institutional integrity and public awareness, especially in densely populated urban centers such as Kampala.
