Nyanjura Doreen, the candidate for the Mwenge Central parliamentary seat, has expressed gratitude to her supporters after Thursday’s elections, acknowledging the challenges her campaign faced.
In a statement released shortly after the results, Nyanjura highlighted the difficulties of her campaign, including threats, attempted bribery, and physical intimidation.
“It wasn’t an easy road to navigate but we did our best amidst threats, bribery and physical harm,” she said, adding that her team succeeded in gaining genuine support despite these hurdles.
The candidate secured 7,464 votes, which she described as a testament to the loyalty and commitment of Mwenge Central residents.
“They said it was impossible for us to get votes without bribing but we showed them it was possible. The 7,464 votes that we got were of people that genuinely loved me and Mwenge Central,” she said.
Nyanjura also addressed those who abandoned her campaign at the final stages.
“Those that were bribed and abandoned us at the last hour, it’s not Nyanjura that you betrayed, you betrayed yourself and Mwenge Central,” she remarked, emphasizing that the integrity of voters matters more than last-minute inducements.
While Nyanjura did not comment directly on the winner, her message underscores a campaign focused on principle and community engagement over political manipulation.
Nyanjura concluded by reiterating her commitment to Mwenge Central, promising to continue advocating for its development and representing its people’s interests beyond the ballot.
