Parliament Mourns Former Minister Namirembe Bitamazire

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has announced the passing of Honourable Namirembe Bitamazire, a distinguished former legislator and cabinet minister, describing her as a dedicated servant of the nation.


In a statement posted on X, Speaker Among said: “The House has also been officially informed of the demise of Honourable Namirembe Bitamazire, a former leader who served her country in the legislature and the cabinet with utmost dedication for an extended period. We extend our sincere condolences to her family, relatives, and friends, and we pray that the Lord grant her soul eternal rest.”


Bitamazire’s political career spanned decades, during which she held key positions in government, including multiple ministerial roles, and contributed to shaping Uganda’s education and governance sectors. 


Colleagues remember her as a committed public servant whose work left a lasting impact on policy and community development.


Her death has prompted tributes across Uganda, with many leaders and citizens highlighting her legacy in championing education and good governance. 


Former classmates and colleagues recall her as a mentor to many young politicians and an advocate for women’s leadership in public service.


Parliament is expected to observe a period of mourning as arrangements for her final rites are coordinated with the family.
