The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has issued a stern warning against the spread of false and misleading information masquerading as official communication.

In a public notice released on Wednesday, 21st January 2026, the regulator expressed concern over fabricated statements intended to misinform and confuse the public.

According to UCC, these false notices often exaggerate or misrepresent the Commission’s mandates, including areas beyond its regulatory or enforcement authority.

The Commission emphasized that such distortions are deliberate, aimed at creating alarm and undermining public trust in official channels.

UCC urged Ugandans to exercise caution and verify any information purportedly from the Commission before sharing it.

Verification should be done exclusively through UCC’s verified digital platforms to avoid spreading untrue claims.

In a direct message to those behind the fake communications, UCC warned that online anonymity does not protect perpetrators from legal accountability.

“The law will take its course, and those responsible will be brought to book to answer for their actions,” the notice stated.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparent communication, public reassurance, and safeguarding Uganda’s communications ecosystem.

Citizens were encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious notices or messages claiming to be from UCC.

This alert comes amid rising concerns over misinformation in the country, highlighting the growing need for public awareness and responsible sharing of information online.
