The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has hosted a high-level delegation from Rotary International, in discussions centred on membership formalisation, philanthropic collaboration, and maternal and child health initiatives.

The delegation included the District Governor of District 9214, Kyeyune Kawooya; Rotary International Director-Elect Emmanuel Katongole; and Mr. Kin Kariisa, President of the Rotary Club of Kigo Seven Lakes Golf.

The team briefed the Speaker on procedures required for formalising her membership within the global service organisation.

According to the discussions, Rotary International also proposed the establishment of an endowment fund in Speaker Among’s name, specifically dedicated to supporting maternal and child health programmes.

The initiative is expected to channel resources towards improving healthcare access and outcomes for mothers and children, an area that remains a key development priority across the region.

The delegation further extended an invitation to Speaker Among to attend the upcoming All Africa Zone Meeting, a continental gathering of Rotary leaders focused on strengthening service delivery and expanding humanitarian impact across African countries.

Speaker Among expressed appreciation for the engagement, noting the importance of partnerships between public leadership and service organisations in addressing social challenges.

She pledged to accelerate her progression to Major Donor Level Three within Rotary International and to deepen her involvement in the organisation’s activities.

Rotary International, a global network of professionals and community leaders, has for decades been involved in initiatives ranging from disease prevention to education and maternal health support.

Its collaboration with political and institutional leaders has often played a role in scaling up development programmes at local and regional levels.

The proposed endowment fund, if implemented, is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, while strengthening health systems through sustained philanthropic support.

The engagement signals a growing alignment between leadership institutions and international service organisations in advancing health and development priorities.
