National Unity Platform (NUP) president Bobi Wine has announced a series of academic engagements in the United States this week, where he is expected to speak on democracy in Uganda and broader governance challenges facing Africa.

In a statement shared on Saturday, Bobi Wine said he will interact with students and faculty at leading US institutions, including Harvard University and Howard University, as part of ongoing efforts to advance discussions on democratic governance and political reform.

“This week, I will be engaging the students and faculty of Harvard and Howard Universities. We shall have conversations about the struggle for democracy in Uganda, and the future of the African continent generally,” he said.

According to his schedule, Bobi Wine will first appear on Monday, April 27, at the Harvard University Center for African Studies in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The session is expected to bring together scholars, students, and researchers focusing on African politics, governance, and development.

On Tuesday, April 28, he will be hosted by the African Studies Graduate Students Association (ASGSA) at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where discussions will focus on political transitions, civic engagement, and democratic movements across Africa.

“These engagements are part of our broader effort to strengthen solidarity and sharpen the ideas that will define Uganda and Africa’s democratic path,” Bobi Wine noted.

The engagements come at a time when Uganda’s political landscape remains highly contested, with opposition figures consistently raising concerns over governance, civil liberties, and electoral reforms.

Bobi Wine, who transitioned from music to politics, has positioned himself as a leading opposition voice in Uganda, frequently appealing to international academic and policy platforms to amplify debates on governance and democracy in Africa.

His US visit is expected to add to ongoing international conversations on Africa’s democratic trajectory, youth participation in politics, and the role of civic movements in shaping governance outcomes across the continent.

The meetings are also likely to attract attention from Uganda’s political observers, given Bobi Wine’s continued influence in opposition politics and his growing profile on international platforms.
