Preparations are complete for the commencement of the trial of Christopher Onyum Okello, the suspect in the Ggaba toddlers’ murder case, as the Judiciary rolls out a Mobile High Court session in Kampala.

Earlier today, Principal Judge Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo inspected the Ggaba Community Church Grounds to assess readiness for the mobile court session ahead of the hearing.

The special High Court sitting will be presided over by Lady Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha, who will oversee proceedings in the high-profile matter.

The session marks the first Mobile High Court criminal sitting in Kampala, reflecting the Judiciary’s effort to bring justice closer to the public under newly issued Mobile Courts Practice Directions by the Chief Justice, which allow court proceedings outside conventional premises where necessary.

The Ggaba toddlers’ murder case has drawn significant public attention in Kampala and beyond, with residents closely following developments as the trial proceeds under enhanced security arrangements.

Authorities say the mobile court arrangement is intended to ensure timely access to justice while maintaining order in the community where the alleged offences occurred.

According to the Judiciary, the Mobile Courts Practice Directions issued by the Chief Justice provide the legal framework for holding court sessions outside traditional court premises in exceptional circumstances.

The initiative is expected to strengthen efficiency, reduce case backlog, and enhance public confidence in the justice system across Uganda.
