The Government of Uganda has announced that the late Hon. Yafes Otim Omara, former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, will be accorded an official burial.

The announcement came from Milky Babalanda, Minister in charge of the Presidency, who extended condolences to the family, friends, and the people of Karamoja.

In a statement, Babalanda said the President, H.E Gen. Yoweri Museveni, had approved a formal sendoff for the fallen leader.

She added that the National Organising Committee (N.O.C) was actively coordinating with Omara’s family to ensure a dignified burial that honors his service to the nation.

Hon. Otim Omara was widely recognized for his contributions to promoting Uganda’s tourism sector and cultural heritage.

His leadership in the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities saw several initiatives aimed at boosting domestic and international tourism, particularly in Karamoja, where he was deeply involved in community projects.

The Minister urged all Ugandans to remember Omara’s legacy and offered prayers for his eternal rest.

“Condolences to the family, friends, people of Karamoja, and Ugandans at large. May Hon. Otim Omara’s soul rest in eternal peace,” Babalanda stated.

The official burial arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days, with the N.O.C working closely with local authorities to ensure that the ceremony reflects Omara’s life and service to the country.
