Businessman and political commentator Frank Gashumba has opened up on why he deliberately keeps his marriage out of the public spotlight, saying privacy is key to long-term relationship stability.
Speaking during an interview on Sanyuka TV, Gashumba said he has chosen to shield his relationship from public attention, arguing that excessive exposure often weakens marriages rather than strengthening them.
“My relationship is not for the public. No relationship that is constantly in the public eye lasts. My wife and I are focused on long-term goals to sustain our relationship,” he said.
Gashumba’s remarks come months after he formalised his union with Patience Mutoni Malaika through traditional ceremonies, including the kukyala and gusaba rites held in Ssembabule District.
The private nature of his marriage has continued to attract public interest, given his prominence in Ugandan media and political commentary circles.
During the interview, Gashumba also addressed public discussions surrounding his daughter, Sheilah Gashumba, and reports that she does not refer to his wife as “mum.”
He downplayed the issue, insisting that family harmony is not defined by titles but by mutual respect among members.
He emphasised that emotional bonds and respect carry more weight than formal labels within a blended family structure.
“The most important thing is that she respects her,” he said, referring to his wife and the relationship within his household.
Gashumba’s comments add to ongoing public discourse in Uganda about modern family dynamics, especially in high-profile households where personal relationships often become subjects of public scrutiny.
Despite the attention, he maintained that his focus remains on building a stable home away from media interference, reiterating that what matters most is long-term commitment and mutual understanding rather than public validation or online debate.
