The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has revealed that security agencies have recovered significant amounts of cash, high-end vehicles, and sensitive documents from properties linked to Speaker Anita Among, as part of an ongoing anti-corruption crackdown.

In a statement issued amid intensifying investigations, Muhoozi said the operation—dubbed “Operation Maliza Ufisadi”—has already yielded substantial results, signaling what could become one of the most far-reaching corruption probes involving senior government officials in recent years.

“Operation Maliza Ufisadi has just began, already we have retrieved quite a lot of the people's money and property. Everything will be returned to the Treasury. I will give a partial report soon,” Muhoozi said.

According to details emerging from the searches, security operatives recovered multiple sacks of cash in Ugandan shillings, alongside foreign currencies including U.S. dollars and euros, from Among’s residences in Kampala and Wakiso.

Investigators also seized electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and CCTV systems, which are expected to aid forensic analysis.

The operation further led to the confiscation of luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan and a Range Rover Sport, reportedly linked to the Speaker.

Authorities believe some of the recovered assets may have been acquired through misappropriated public funds, although this has not yet been conclusively established in court.

In addition to cash and vehicles, officials collected financial documents, land titles, cheques, and company records believed to be relevant to the investigation.

These materials are expected to play a key role in tracing financial flows and ownership structures tied to the case.

Parallel searches were also conducted at Parliament, where Among’s office and other key administrative offices, including those of finance and audit departments, were sealed off and examined.

However, authorities have not publicly disclosed specific items recovered from the parliamentary offices.

Muhoozi used the moment to issue a stern warning to public officials, urging full cooperation with investigators.

“I advise all government officials to co-operate fully with the security services...in order to avoid arrest,” he stated.

The developments have triggered intense public and political debate, with supporters framing the operation as a bold step against corruption, while critics raise concerns about due process and the military’s visible role in civilian investigations.
