Speculation continues to swirl around the formation of President Yoweri Museveni’s next cabinet following the 2026 general elections, with public curiosity rising over who will retain or lose ministerial positions in the new administration.
While State House has not released an official list, political observers say the transition period has triggered intense lobbying within government circles, as ministers await confirmation of whether they will be retained or dropped in the next lineup.
Amid the uncertainty, NBS television journalist Samson Kasumba weighed in with a mix of humour and commentary during a recent broadcast, capturing the mood of suspense that has gripped political insiders and the public alike.
“Call me and I tell you if you are going to retain your cabinet position! I know someone who knows someone who has given me very interesting information. The President is now refusing to see anyone until the new cabinet has been released. People are now seeing pastors like they have never before!” Kasumba remarked, drawing laughter from colleagues in the studio.
His comments reflect the anxiety reportedly spreading within political circles as ministers and aspirants attempt to secure clarity on their future roles.
According to insiders, access to the President has become more restricted in the post-election period, a move interpreted as part of the process of finalising the new executive structure.
Kasumba further added a lighter but telling anecdote about the speculation surrounding the upcoming announcement.
“Someone called me and by mistake said Hon. Kasumba do you know anything. I said yes! He said tell me. I said I am a news anchor and I will read the new cabinet list whether you are on or not!” he said.
The journalist’s remarks underline the level of anticipation building around the cabinet announcement, which is expected to be one of the key political milestones following the elections.
However, official communication from State House remains limited, with no confirmed timeline for the release of the new ministerial lineup.
Under Uganda’s constitutional framework, the President appoints Cabinet Ministers subject to parliamentary approval, meaning the final list must still pass through formal vetting processes even after nomination.
