MP for the elderly Ofwono Opondo has defended former Speaker Anita Among, revealing that he spent two hours with her at her residence on Thursday as investigations into her conduct continue.

Speaking during an interview on NBS Television, Opondo dismissed claims that Among’s home had been designated a crime scene, saying his visit did not reflect what has been portrayed publicly.

“I was at Anita Among's residence today for two hours and I didn't see any tape saying it was a crime scene. I had a joyful conversation with her. She is a friend and our leader,” Opondo said.

His remarks come amid ongoing investigations by security agencies into allegations of corruption, illicit enrichment, abuse of office and money laundering.

Investigators have reportedly searched some of Among’s properties and seized documents and other materials as part of the probe.

Opondo also questioned how the investigations are being communicated to the public, calling for more transparency from those involved.

“Since they have decided to play to the public gallery, I want the people leading the investigations against Anita Among to give us daily updates,” he stated.

He said regular updates would help address speculation and provide clarity on the progress of the case, which has drawn significant public attention.

At the same time, Opondo described Among as a personable leader, urging the public not to overlook her character despite the allegations she is facing.

“Regardless of what you think about her, Anita Among has a good persona. There is no one she can't hug,” he added.

The developments continue to draw mixed reactions among political leaders and the public, with some calling for due process to take its course while others demand accountability.
