Security operations linked to an ongoing corruption investigation involving senior figures in Uganda’s Parliament continued on Sunday, with journalist Sudhir Byaruhanga reporting that the search at the residence of former Speaker Anita Among is still underway.
In a statement shared on his verified platforms, Byaruhanga said the prolonged operation had effectively kept Among confined to her home since Friday, amid heightened security presence and restricted movement around the property.
“The search at AAA’s home is still on, which means she hasn’t slept since yesterday,” he stated, referring to Among by her widely used initials.
The operation, which has drawn attention across Kampala, is reportedly being conducted by a joint security team as part of wider investigations into alleged corruption networks within Parliament.
Authorities have not yet issued a detailed public briefing outlining the specific findings or scope of the search.
Byaruhanga further warned individuals who may be linked to the probe against attempting to leave the country, indicating that security agencies were on high alert at border points.
“If anyone is named in the ongoing investigation into corruption in Parliament under the watch of AAA, please do not attempt to flee the country. All borders are on red alert to apprehend suspects,” he said.
He added that any arrests made would be followed by strict enforcement procedures, though he did not provide further operational details.
“Once caught, it will be a painful journey to the basement,” he added, a remark that has since drawn strong reactions online due to its metaphorical tone.
The developments come against the backdrop of increased scrutiny of Uganda’s parliamentary leadership over corruption-related allegations.
In recent years, Among has faced multiple accusations linked to financial misconduct and the handling of public resources, all of which she has denied or which have remained unresolved in court.
